Trans Tales

Since queerguru met and interviewed filmmaker/activist transman Jake Graf earlier this year we have become big fans of all his efforts to de-mystify the trans community to all us cis-folk.  He, along with his friends, beautifully articulate their own stories which are imbued with both love and humor, to help us understand and appreciate the journeys they took to be true to who they really are.

Here is their latest video simply called 'Trans Stories' and if you want to see more, be sure to subscribe to Jake Graf's You Tube channel, and also revisit our own interview with him at http://www.queerguru.com/2016/01/jake-graf-man-of-moment.html

Henry comes Further Out Of The Closet

Australian transman Henry Tadebois used his skills that he picked up when studying film and TV at Swinburne TAFE in Melbourne to make a rather stunning 'Coming Out' video.  Well technically he explained that it was a 'Further Coming Out' as first time around was when he was a lesbian, but now that he is swapping the L (in LGBTGIA) for the T he wants to explain to the world exactly what that means.

The 24-year-old train driver teamed up with his friend Kaylene Tyler to try and de-bunk some of the myths about transman in a style and format that was both enlightening and downright funny. He told BuzzFeed News it was important to him to come out in a light-hearted way.“I didn’t want to be all serious, doom and gloom,” he said. “Humor creates trust, and if you can laugh at something, it’s not a big deal.”

I'm still be the same person you’ve always known,” Henry finishes. “I just need to make the outside match the inside… And I’m super excited!”

10 Days to Valentines Day .......

Just 10 days to go to Valentines Day, the one day a year when it's not just OK to be seen to be lovey-dovey with your partner, it is totally expected and even the most unromantic souls have to step up to the plate for 24 hours at least.  If you are in the latter group and need a wee push, then take a leaf out of Robin and Jason's book who have been obviously head-over-heels in love since they first clapped eyes on each other, and now having been able to share their life together with their baby daughter, are now ecstatic.  Grab a kleenex and watch this heartwarming couple tell their tale in this new advert for Hallmark Cards.

Emmanuelle Free HiFi Internet

Rio born / Miami raised / Milano based artist  Emmanuelle, a protege of the Dewaele Brothers Soulwax group comes out with a series of anti-social ultra-2016 observations, as (very) fit boys get high on some pec-popping WiFi.  Social commentary and danceability combined.  Perfect for a Tuesday morning.

Disposable Teens

"Disposable Teens" is a new Web Series about the plight of Austin a gay teen who, when forced out of the closet by his reactionary parents, ends up running away and is forced to live on the streets. When his plea for help is ignored by the homeless shelter, he instead accepts an offer of help from a handsome stranger who has very ulterior motives.

This very impressive and totally realistic five part series is written and directed by Brian Pelletier for Outlicious TV, and stars an impressive young cast that includes Chris Jehnert, Lucio Nieto and Andy Rappos.  The final episode airs on February 8th on You Tube, and this, and the earlier episodes, can be found on the Outlicious Channel.

P.S. Outlicious TV also produced a delightfully funny web-series last year about a Flying Attendant who can never get laid.  Called "Flying High With Charlie" and starring Brandon Salerno : it is very cute, and well worth checking out.

Mille Brown : Performance Artist

Millie Brown appears to have few boundaries as what she is prepared to do to make her art.  In the past this British-born performance artist has vomited colorful milk onto a canvas (for Lady Gaga at SXSW) and now in this latest piece released in a video last week, she swings naked from a pendulum as paint is bound body.  The act and the art are both completely stunning.

Describing her work the artist said "I wanted to transform myself into a human pendulum: to act as a conductor channelling energy and intention directly through my body; to detach my mind and body from the ground below momentarily and experience new feelings physically and mentally; to push through discomfort and pain and to find light and growth. I wanted to allow the element of control to be eliminated and for the paint to fall and splatter where it wished and for myself to feel raw and human— present in that moment in time and space."

Indiana Queen's new raunchy video

The indie country music band Indiana Queen from Nashville fronted by queer singer Kevin Thornton have released new video for their song 'I Don't know What To Do' which is suprisingly romantic and very raunchy.  It features two bearded man who kiss and then make out in a scene set against a backdrop of the American prairie.

Thornton told 'The Huffington Post" "My initial inspiration for the video was film noir cowboy and horse fantasy. When I asked my friends Phillipe and Nick a real life couple to be in the video, they brought so much chemistry it morphed into something else, but I really love the end result."
The song will be on the band’s upcoming album "I Built A Fire," which is set to be released February 16.

Barbie REALLY parties on New Years Eve

If there is one night a year that even Barbie gets wasted, then it's New Years Eve. Not only does she behave more 'real' than any of those 'housewives on reality TV shows, but she gets laid by Ken too.  This fabulous 'stop and motion' video is by Sam and Mickey who's You Tube channel promises "more dirty Barbie stop motion films than innocent minds can handle".

100 Years of New Year's Eve Style for Men

Still cannot decide what to wear tomorrow night to celebrate New Years Eve?  Still hanker back to those days when we all really dressed up for the occasion?  Well those clever people over at Mode You Tube Channel have put together another of their very clever videos of their condensed histories of mens; fashion and this time its all about what we have been wearing to party on New Years Eve throughout the ages.

They cover 11 decades starting in 1915 and include some really dapper styles that we wished would re-emerge but also some very questionable outfits that we are in total denial about ever wearing way back then.

P.S.  Personally we would be happy if every handsome gentleman dressed like this still to celebrate.

Abby Says Please Forget Her

In case you've been nowhere the sports pages this week, then you may not know that Abby Wambach has just played her very last game of soccer. Wambach openly gay and  a six-time winner of the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year award,  has been a regular on the U.S. women's national soccer team since 2003 earning her first cap in 2001.  As a forward, she currently stands as the highest all-time goal scorer for the national team and holds the world record for international goals for both female and male soccer players with 184 goals. In 2012, Wambach was awarded the FIFA World Player of the Year, becoming the first American woman to win the award in ten years, and earlier this year she was included in Time Magazine's Time 100 list as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

In this real tearjerker of a goodbye that is actually an advert for Gatorade, Wambach wants to now quietly disappear "Forget me," she says. "Forget my number. Forget my name. Forget I ever existed."

From the mouths of drunks and children......

We vowed we would never use the T word once in these pages but we came across two hilarious videos that we wanted to share as what is currently happening in the US Presidential Campaign is so Tragic, we need to laugh with the sheer hope that we may just wake up Tomorrow and realize that it has all been just a bad dream.

Meanwhile here are actual words coming out of the uncontrollable mouth of the Leading Candidate for the Republican Nomination but acted out in this video by your drunk next door neighbor, and they are a perfect fit.

If you have been questioning the IQ of this particular would-be-President, you will know it's hard to guess it exactly.  BUT here is a good clue, in this second video his actual words are read out by an 8 year old boy and suddenly they make much more sense.  Sort of.

#nakedinabox

Yet another naked story lands in queerguru's in-tray this morning, this one about a student at the Iceland Academy of the Arts who stripped off to live in a glass box  as part of a class project.   There is a live feed via You Tube for people  to watch his every move day and night and according to The Iceland Monitor, 23-year-old Almar Atlason has already shown the world which hand he masturbates with on day six of his project.

Dozens of people are documenting his every move on Twitter, tweeting with the hashtag #nakinníkassa, which is Icelandic for “naked in a box.”   We have just one question to ask : Who even knew it was ever warm enough to take any of your clothes off in Iceland?

You can watch his live link below.

What Grandpa REALLY wants for Christmas

Forget the syrupy over-sentimentalized Christmas TV adverts from all those British Department Stores, one US personal services vendor has come up with a real cracker to promote their gift cards this holiday season.  They know what Grandpa really wants is not some sweet old widow woman to while away his days but a ....... well, wait and see what his thoughtful Grandson's gift actually is.

Russell Elliot : Around

Queer R & B performer Russell Elliot  has just released his stunning new music video  "Around'.

Elliot identifies as a pansexual feminist and is inspired by his own experiences with falling for a man in college who identified as straight.   He told The Huffington Post "Falling for a straight boy is hard. When he likes you back, but has no accessible way to act upon those feelings without betraying his heteronormative identity, things get messy. I fell for a boy in college who wanted me behind closed doors and wanted the rest of his comfortable straight life on the other side of that door partying with the 'normal' kids. This video is me finally saying what I should have from the jump: you can’t have it both ways."

Co-starring dancer Alonso Guzman and with superb choreography from The Kuperman Brothers, this is a queerquru pick of the week.

#LoveWins For All

After the US Supreme Court made their momentous decision back on June 26th 2015 ruling that same-sex marriage was legal in all 50 States, a talented young filmmaker called Yulin Kuang found her own way of expressing her joy.  Using Shakespeare's Sonnet 116  ...."let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments" .... as her inspiration, she set up to make a video showing 50 same-sex couples in 50 states to celebrate #LoveWins.  Released by Field Day, a YouTube Collective of dynamic filmmakers, it's guaranteed to have you reaching for your Kleenex.  This time however, it is for tears of joy.

Hollywood Must Do Better

In a new report out the LGBT advocacy group GLAAD claims that most major Hollywood studio films either totally avoid our community or they ensure that LGBT figures are simply the butts of jokes or putdowns.  In 2014, for example, only 17 of more than 100 studio releases included lesbian, gay or bisexual characters, and most of those roles amounted to little more than cameos. Movies like 'Get Hard,' 'Ted 2' or 'The Wolf of Wall Street' blatantly use homophobic terms or use gay characters as easy sport for really bad and offensive jokes.

GLAAD have now released an online video campaign called 'Hollywood Must Do Better' to highlight the unfair treatment of LGBT characters in major Hollywood films using a collection of clips from some of the worst offenders. A disclaimer at the beginning of the video reads "People around the world love going to the movies, but for LGBT people, entertainment often comes at their expense."

GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis warned that the film industry was in danger of being left behind – by failing to mirror the progress made by ground-breaking TV shows such as 'Transparent' and 'Orange is the New Black'.  She added “As television and streaming services continue to produce a remarkable breadth of diverse LGBT representations, we still struggle to find depictions anywhere near as authentic or meaningful in mainstream Hollywood film.”

Touring P Town with Miss Varla Jean Merman

One of the last interviews we did this summer for Provincetown Community Television was also one of our best.  We knew that it was destined to be so the moment we received an invitation from Miss Varla Jean Merman to tour the town one evening in her glamourus vintage red convertible.  Miss Merman is the nearest thing we have to royalty in P Town, but that didn't stop her dishing the dirt as we motored down Commercial Street.

Hear her take on what life is really like being a star performer : what she really thinks of Elaine Paige and Ryan Landry : about flying to London with exploding cheese canisters: getting a Restraining Order from her famous mother Ethel Merman: paying her dues to her mentor Miss Coco Peru:  plus having a  hot new young boyfriend ....... and why she never ever goes to the Beach ..... where she is off to next, and why she will be back next summer at The Art House for her 18th year in P.Town.

Special thanks to Director/Editor Rik Ahlberg and our driver Andy Wentz.

We talk to Kalin Mitov the Director of Boston Open Dance Sport about the 2015 U.S. Ballroom Same Sex Dance Championship that he is organising this Fall to be held for the very first time in Provincetown Town Hall. Mitov was the  North American Same-Sex Ballroom Nine-Dance Champion for two consecutive years and is featured in a new dance documentary 'Hot To Trot' that is about to be released soon.  This clip is part of a longer interview for Provincetown Community Television about the new Championships and his forthcoming appearance on the silver screen too,  filmed and edited by Rik Ahlberg.
