L.A actor and comedian Brian Jordan Alvarez's latest Vlog is one of his very best. He has teamed up with another award-winning vlogger Jimmy Fowlie('Go-Go Boy Interuppted') to show exactly how gay guys react when they get rejected. Well, some of us. Actually, probably a lot of us.
We are noticing a very definite trend with some of the more sensitive and perceptive videos posted on You Tube about being all aspects of being gay are actually coming from straight men. Not only that, but they are all young, comfortable not just with their own sexuality but are more than happy to embrace and support others too. Plus for some reason, they are all as hot as hell.
The latest one that we have discovered is Chris Thompson a prolific Vlogger from California. Thompson has some 300K subscribers and has made over 400 videos that have collectively had a massive 38 million hits. The particular video he has made that got our attention was actually released last summer, and although it went viral (over 2 million hits) it has only just reached our playlist.
Thompson asks 'Is being Gay A Choice?' in response to the fact that he, and so many others, got so enraged when they saw the hatred poured on to a teenager called Daniel Pearson when he came out to his conservative parents. Young Daniel had posted his own video that he made secretly when his abusive family literally threw him out of his own home.
A very emotional Thompson picking up on the fact that Daniel's parents had refused to believe that he had a choice over his sexuality, asked his followers 'If you could choose, would choose to be gay or to be straight'. Several gay people tweeted that although they were happy with their lives, if there had been such a thing as a choice, then they would have picked straight to avoid all the hard times they were given growing up gay.
The response of someone who wanted to remain anonymous had Thompson in tears. He read ' Not many people know that I’m gay. If I had a choice, I’d choose to be straight because as a gay I feel empty and less than other men. I just found rejection from people, even my parents (they love me, but they hate the fact that I’m gay), and even God dislikes that so… I’m so fucked up.’
Thompson may not be the most articulate and profound of thinkers but he certainly doesn't passion in what he believes and summed it up with‘If you think being gay is a choice and you want to hide behind the Bible, show me the verse where God says “being gay is a choice!”, before urging his viewers to educate themselves on the subject and to be proud of who they are – gay, straight, bisexual or trans.
