BalletBoyz Hit New York

If you prefer your ballet when it is not all cluttered up with skinny ballerinas in pink tutus then you will love The Ballet Boyz : The Talent.  This celebrated rather stunning group of contemporary Brit dancers are just finishing their current US Tour with a week performing at The Joyce Theater in New York.

The show features two commissions from leading British choreographers: The Murmuring by Alexander Whitley and Mesmerics by Christopher Wheeldon. The cast of 10 dancers have been receiving rave reviews for their pyrotechnic performances which is part of the  newer, more approachable presentation that their Company has earned its reputation on.  

BalletBoyz; The Talent is the brainchild Michael Nunn and Billy Trevitt who met when they were principal dancers with Britain's prestigious Royal Ballet.  Now 12 years later loaded with a stack of Awards, the Company appearances have continued to attract enthusiastic young audiences that are completely new to ballet and who can relate to unconventional, often sensual male-male partnering.

Set To Go : a Brazilian Dance-Off

Alice aka Ryan Neves dances the night away as performer in a Club in Recife in Northern Brazil and in this video by former photojournalist Bárbara Wagner he does a routine using a local dance style known as Faz que vai (Set To Go) step.  Set to an original composition by the Bomba do Hemetério Popular Orchestra, the result is quite stunning.

Gotta Dance Mashup

Michael Binder is a real movie aficionado and he painstakingly put this rather brilliant video together using 66 classic movie dance scenes from the golden days of Hollywood in this mashup set to Mark Ronson and Uptown Funk featuring Bruno Mars.   We dare you to watch it without wanting to get up and dance yourself.

Two Naked French Men & A Couple of Towels

Timing is everything as these two French chaps will testify.  We thought as everyone needs some distraction right now, it would a perfect moment to revisit their live performance on French TV when Les Beaux Freres bravely danced juggling with just a pair of towels, and their dignity, in this hilarious routine.  We know that you will be just waiting for them to drop them.

True Bromance

This stunning video directed by Bertil Nilsson of the experimental acrobatic company, Barely Methodical Troupe was first released in 2014 and remains a queerguru firm favorite.   It was filmed in the streets of London and is based on a live performance which won the Total Theatre Award at the Edinburgh Festival. Nilsson created Bromance using the body and its movement as his sole method of communicating with his subjects.  He described it as The film explores the intimacy of physical interaction between guys. It’s based on them being friends, exploring the intimacy of physical interaction between guys; of their 'bromance. The concept of the film was to set something unusual in the real world, almost a documentary in the most abstract of senses.'

The dancers featured are Beren D'Amico, Charlie Wheeller and Louis Gift.
