Flawless Fassbinder Slays as Macbeth

If William Shakespeare was still around to pick up his royalty checks he would have made more than a wee fortune from Macbeth alone.  It's been filmed almost 70 times already, with three versions being released this year alone.  Out of all of these, the one due to hit US screens next month could be the hottest one yet. Directed by Australian filmmaker Justin Kurzel ('The Snowtown Murders') it stars Michael Fassbinder as a wonderfully dark and sinister Macbeth who is perfectly paired with Marion Cotillard playing this murderous wife.

Shot on location mainly on the Isle of Skye off Scotland's coast with a cast that includes Paddy Considine, David Thewlis, Sean Harris and Jack Reynor, the movie debuted at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to near rave reviews.  Robbie Collins writing in 'The Telegraph' literally shouted 'Fassbender was born for this'.  Looking at this first trailer, you can see exactly what he means.
