Eddie Redmayne Asks for Help

Oscar winning actor and all-round good egg Eddie Redmayne was in Los Angeles recently hoping that he may collect a second Academy Award for his stunning portrayal of the transgender artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl. Ms Elbe in real life was one of first people in the world to undergo gender re-alignment surgery. Although her journey was not easy, she did come from a comfortable middle-class background so life generally was not too rough for her.  

So during Redmayne's visit to Tinseltown he visited  LA's LGBT Center which provides a total support system for LGBT homeless youth, , including a place to stay,  The actor was shocked to learn that 40% of youths experiencing homelessness in the city are LGBT or questioning, and he offered to record this PSA after learning more about how the Center provides to help the homeless youth establish successful and independent lives for themselves.

The Danish Girl Shines

Whilst the movie The Danish Girl is wowing crowds as it currently plays prestigious Film Festivals around the world and is getting nothing less than rave reviews for its star Eddie Redmayne, there are still mumblings about it's lack of political correctness having a cisgender man playing a transgender women. 'Time Out' even goes so far as to pronounce the movie is 'too conservative' in its approach to this hot button topic.

Now Focus Features have released a second trailer of the movie, and frankly we are even more convinced that Redmayne was THE perfect actor for the role, and are still placing our bet that he will end up being nominated for a possible second Best Actor Academy Award come December. 

Will The Danish Girl give Eddie Redmayne another Oscar?

Focus Features have just released the first trailer of 'The Danish Girl' and if this clip is anything to go by then it is obvious that its star Eddie Redmayne is heading for his second Best Actor Oscar this year.   This true story is set in Copenhagen in the early 1920s , and the illustrator and artist Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander) asks her husband, Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) to stand in for a female model. The popularity of the portraits leads to Gerda painting her husband in further pictures as a woman. Einar develops an attraction for a female physical appearance and begins living as a woman named Lili Elbe. Ultimately Elbe becomes the first ever recipient of male to female sex reassignment surgery, and Gerda supports her decision, although their marriage becomes strained when Gerda comes to the realization that Lili is no longer the person she married. A childhood friend of Einar, Hans Axgil (Matthias Schoenaerts), shows up and forms a complex love triangle with the couple.

Directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper ("The King's Speech," "Les Misérables") the movie will be premiered at Venice Film Festival this week, and then released in US movie theaters on November 27th.   We cannot wait!
