Cate Blanchett : A Rose Without Thorns

We can still remember the iconic images that celebrated British photographer TIM WALKER shot of TILDA SWINTON for a cover story of W Magazine in 2013.  Now Walker has turned his lens on CATE BLANCHETT on the eve of the release her latest movie CAROL which is tipped to win her yet another Academy Award Nomination.  His phenomenal photographs of Ms Blanchett are the lead story A Rose Without Thorns in the current issue of W Magazine that is now on bookstands everywhere.

Oh Carol!

The Weinstein Company have just released another brand new trailer of one of THE most anticipated new movies coming out this fall. 'CAROL'  is directed by Todd Haynes ('Far From Heaven') and is based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith ('The Talented Mr Ripley') and starring Cate Blanchett as an older married women who falls for a much younger one played by Rooney Mara. After its rapturous reception at Cannes Film Festival in May where Mara picked up the Best Actress Award, there has been an Oscar buzz for all the main players, including Haynes, and maybe a Best Picture Nomination too.

The movie opens in movie theaters on November 20th  : we cannot wait.

Cate says I Love Lucy

Some movie castings are so perfect it's just a wonder that no-one has thought of them before. Like the announcement made today that Cate Blanchett is to play Lucille Ball in a biopic produced by her two children Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jnr.   The script to be written by Aaron Sorkin (West Wing) will evidently focus on Ball's 20 year marriage to Cuban bandleader Arnaz and their mega TV hit series 'I Love Lucy' for which Ball won 4 Emmys.

Two-time Oscar winner Blanchett is no stranger to portraying old Hollywood stars  as her first Academy Award was for playing Katherine Hepburn in the movie 'The Aviator'.  Will this be a role to perhaps give her a 3rd Oscar?
